Remembering the old Howard Johnson's in Dix Hills, Long Island with the attached restaurant and a menu of ice cream flavors was always a fun place to go. So, when I initially spotted Howard Johnson's on US 1 in Vero Beach, I always wondered how it had changed since now a Wyndham property. I teach Nia dance fitness in Vero and due to an a/c breakdown at my home I needed to escape into coolness so I could continue to teach, and decided that this was the time to satisfy my curiosity about HJ. I parked under the awning at the front of the long two-story building, with lanais extending from each room, and was greeted with a smile and pleasant conversation by the manager on duty. He initially asked if I preferred ground or second floor, and I also noted that it is clearly indicated on signs NO PETS ALLOWED. I was checked in, and he showed me the layout of the property, where my assigned room was located and where the entry doors are. I was located in the perpendicular wing in the back of the property. Parking continues around the entire outside perimeter of the property and there are main entry doors at each section end, and these doors operate using your key card. There was a soda machine and a pay washer/dryer by the entry. If you proceed thru the second door it leads to the in-side of the building facing the outdoor pool area. Everything is well clean, spotless, and well maintained. I was able to park outside my ground floor assigned room. The room was very clean, up-to-date modern decor with king-sized bed/bed stand, dresser, tv, small round table with two chairs, refrigerator and microwave, closet area at main entry and full bath. It was quiet, relaxing, and for me the air-conditioner was my saving grace! Coffee, orange juice and granola bars are the breakfast offerings, but please understand right next door is Dunkin'Donuts, Starbucks in just up the road, Walmart is across the street and Pancake House is across the road.

I love staying at this hotel because of who they are and the location is central to anything and everything, even a Veterinarian Hospital,if need be. Of all times they sheltered me during the most recent Hurricane MIlton and the staff were so busy making sure the building was safe as the flooding began. We had constant tornado alerts for about two hours before the winds kicked in, and we lost power immediately, as a tornado that had briefly touched down knocked out service. The halls were well-maintained with light. Breakfast is primarily coffee and a breakfast bar, but Dunkin'Donuts is right next door, and the Pancake House as well as every other fast food place and Walmart is directly across the street. THe pool area is nice, well-maintained and private. My best kept secret is this hotel so I know I have a room when I need it. Great way to feel about a place when you cannot make it home.

The location is excellent. It is in the heart of a lot of eateries and restaurants. This is about the 4th time I've stayed at this site so I know what to expect. It's not the Ritz, but I'm a realist and don't have unrealistic expectations. It in a convenient location, in the heart of everything and comfortable. That's good enough for me.

Marvin

The location was very convenient for a family wedding at the beach. It was clean and reasonably priced compared to all other rentals nearby. The staff was friendly and helpful. The morning coffee bar was well-stocked.. It met and exceeded all my expectations!

Janet

Very spacious room with a balcony overlooking the pool. Had a very beautiful view of the sunrise every morning. Didn't use the washer/dryer option, but was pleased to see it's availability. All the staff was super nice.
